On some of our black volcanic sandy beaches in Makira, beautiful leatherback turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Unfortunately the eggs and the turtles are eaten if they are discovered. We have started a conservation project to create and train local rangers to protect the turtles and their eggs and educate local communities.
This supports our vision for our local communities in Makira to protect and maintain their culture, their environment and earn a livelihood to support their children by producing the highest quality, sustainable cash crops like cacao.

If you buy chocolate from the major chocolate companies such as cadbury or nestle, then you are buying chocolate made with child labour. They have promised for decades to stop using child labour in their supply but they haven't. Even some of the couverture chocolate used by chocolatiers is using child labour. Make informed choices about your chocolate.
Use bean to bar craft chocolate where there is farmer traceability.
Kudos to Washington Post for running this story against the big chocolate agenda.

The Makira winners! Solchoc top 3 and Luz Kasimwane and Brian Atkin

Huge news! One of our Makira farmers Lenard won first prize at Solchoc festival this year (under his dads name Henry Haga)!! Another of our Makira Gold farmers took third prize!!
Three farmers from Makira took out the first three places in Solchoc festival this year 😊😊😊 First time the same island has taken top three. Such great recognition of these great farmers and the quality improvement work we do in Makira.

Tribal club from Makira that sold for a record €10,000 at Sothebys, New York last week. The people of Makira would find this news astonishing considering how little money they have and how they struggle to find the few dollars each year for school fees for their children. What an unbalanced world we live in.

Supporting the FBM/Euroquip Specialty chocolate making class in Sydney with Jessica Pedemont. We'll be presenting to a range of chocolate professionals on specialty cacao supply chains and logistics, importing cacao beans and cacao post harvest processing and exports from origin. Looking forward to a great 3 days! Of course with plenty of fantastic Solomon Islands cacao beans 😊
